McCall Land & Cattle Co. has been in business for many years. We began our purebred cattle business with Limousin Cattle in 1988. Limousin were chosen because the McCall son’s had shown and been successful with Limousin steers and heifers while in 4-H. It was an easy choice given the muscle and growth ability the Limousin cattle had developed.

Several years ago we had some unregistered Angus females on which we used a Limousin Bull. Those half blood females were very impressive with their first 3 calves. The milking ability and weaning size improved. Thus, we began to study the Angus cattle more thoroughly. We had seen so many Angus with no muscle and extremely narrow. However, a few visits to Missouri and the North country proved our preconceived idea was wrong. We were converts. We have searched for Angus with muscle, thickness, depth of rib, and above all production. We only selected Angus from herds that were being dispersed so we could buy only the proven top end of their females and bulls. Most all cows had nursing calves so we could determine their milking ability and spent many hours studying EPDs and Ratios of each animal. We then went to a ranch that had the genetics we wanted to put on those females that had been proven in the pastures and show rings.

Due to the fact that land in and around Albuquerque is in such great demand and the fact that fall calving in New Mexico is almost impossible to do the natural state; we have a ranch in the Texas panhandle near Wheeler. The winter wheat and milder weather contribute to a great Fall calving program. All bulls and females are weaned and returned to New Mexico in the Moriarty valley to graze on Grama grass and become accustomed to the environment in which they will spend their lives doing their jobs. Bulls should be treated as they will be used by our customers. Our customer satisfaction and acceptance and repeat buyers have been great over the past several years.
